WHAT IF MY BABY WON'T SETTLE OR SLEEP?

As newborn photographers, we understand the importance of capturing those precious moments of a baby’s first few weeks of life. However, one challenge that we may face is when a baby won’t settle or sleep during a photo shoot.

It can be frustrating for both the parents and the photographer, but it’s essential to remember that babies are unpredictable and have their own schedules. Here are some tips that help us navigate this situation:

We are always patient and flexible: Babies can sense stress and anxiety, so it’s crucial to remain calm and patient throughout the session. We are always prepared to adjust the plan and schedule to accommodate the baby’s needs.

Keep the baby comfortable: We make sure that the baby is warm and comfortable during the photoshoot. Keeping the room temperature warm, using soft and comfortable fabrics, and sometimes using a white noise machine to help them feel secure and calm.

Try different poses: If the baby won’t settle in one pose, we will try different positions and poses until we find one that works. Babies are naturally flexible, so we will take advantage of this and experiment with different angles and positions.

Take breaks: It’s important to take breaks during the photo shoot to allow the baby to rest and recharge. This also gives the parents an opportunity to feed, change, or comfort the baby as needed.

Be creative: If the baby won’t sleep, we will capture the awake moments. These can be just as precious as sleeping shots and can showcase the baby’s unique personality.

In conclusion, photographing a newborn can be a challenging but rewarding experience. We are always patient, flexible, and creative, and most importantly, prioritise the baby’s safety and comfort.
